1. Acceptance of Terms

By accessing or using Map Mates ("the Service"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service. If you do not agree to these terms, do not use the Service.

2. Description of Service

Map Mates is a platform that allows users to place pins on a map indicating their location and connect with other users, particularly expats and remote workers, for networking and social purposes.

3. User Accounts

• You are assigned an anonymous identifier when you first use the Service. This ID is stored in your browser.
• You are responsible for maintaining the security of your device and browser.
• You may only create one pin per browser/device.
• Clearing your browser data may result in loss of access to your pin. We cannot recover pins if you lose your anonymous ID.

4. User Content

When creating a pin, you agree that:

• All information you provide is accurate and represents you truthfully.
• You will not impersonate others or create pins for people who have not consented.
• Your content does not violate any laws or infringe on others' rights.
• You grant Map Mates a non-exclusive, worldwide license to display your pin content on the platform.

5. Prohibited Conduct

You agree not to:

• Use the Service for spam, harassment, or any illegal purpose.
• Create fake pins, misleading locations, or multiple pins to manipulate the platform.
• Scrape, harvest, or collect user data from the platform without permission.
• Send unsolicited commercial messages through the connection feature.
• Attempt to interfere with, compromise, or disrupt the Service.
• Use the Service to stalk, harass, or harm other users.
• Post content that is hateful, discriminatory, or promotes violence.

6. Connection Requests

The coffee chat/connection feature is intended for genuine networking. Users who abuse this feature (spam, harassment, commercial solicitation) may have their pins removed without warning.

7. Safety Disclaimer

Important: Map Mates facilitates introductions but does not verify users' identities or backgrounds.

• Always meet in public places when connecting with someone new.
• Trust your instincts and prioritize your safety.
• We are not responsible for any interactions that occur between users.
• Report suspicious behavior to us immediately.

8. Intellectual Property

The Map Mates name, logo, and all related graphics, code, and design are owned by us. You may not use our branding without written permission. The map data is provided by OpenStreetMap contributors under the ODbL license.

9. Termination

We reserve the right to remove any pin or ban any user who violates these terms, without prior notice. You may delete your pin at any time through the app interface.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties

The Service is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee the accuracy of user-provided information, continuous availability of the service, or that the service will meet your expectations.

11. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Map Mates shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages arising from your use of the Service, including but not limited to damages arising from meetings with other users.

12. Changes to Terms

We may modify these terms at any time. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms. We encourage you to review these terms periodically.

13. Governing Law

These terms shall be governed by and construed in accordance with applicable laws, without regard to conflict of law principles.
